Welcome nominating agencies! The National Philanthropy Day committee is delighted you are interested in recognizing an outstanding individual or organization. With the exception of the youth categories, each major award (categories listed below) recognizes individuals or organizations that have a record of broad and significant financial support in our community. Please remember that only non-profit 501c3 agencies are eligible to submit nominations. Please review and follow the instructions on the application process for submitting your nominations for the categories below:
Outstanding Philanthropist Awards are presented to individuals, corporations, service organizations, youth, and young adults who demonstrate an exceptional commitment, not only to your individual agency, but to the community as a whole, though direct financial support, development of charitable programs, innovative program development, and outstanding, consistent leadership in the field of philanthropy. When selecting nominees, the committee requests that you seriously consider the long-term impact the individuals or organizations have on our community as well as the breath of their support. While not necessarily definitive, multiple nominations will be considered as a factor. The definition for each category is listed below. Thank you!

May 1st - Forms available for submission
July 1st - All submissions for major categories are due
August 20th - Distinguished Honoree submissions are due

 

Applications Process:
Applications must be submitted on or before July 1st. Applications will be rated by a team of reviewers who will evaluate nominees using the criteria outlined below.


  • Step 1: Download and complete the Nomination Application ( PDF | Word ) according to directions on the form.

  • Step 2: Download and complete a separate Narrative Summary ( PDF | Word ) for each major category nominee on the specified form. The narrative summary should not exceed two pages, 12 pt. font, 1 inch margins, addressing the specific points described below.

  • Step 3: Save it to your files, the Nomination Application and the Narrative Summaries forms, then email electronically to: submissions@centralcoastnpd.org

 

Narrative Summary Criteria:

1) Describe what the nominee has contributed to your organization. Please provide actual dollar amount contributed or the percentage of the project/program supported if applicable.

2) Describe the impact of the nominee’s philanthropy on your organization.

  • a) If the nominee contributed for a specific purpose, in one or two sentences, describe that project.
  • b) If the nominee initiated a specific project or program, please describe it.
  • c) Describe the long term benefits to your organization: For example: funds will enable the project be ongoing; the nominee is working on other projects to further your mission; the nominee has generated long term support for a project or program; the nominee strengthened your board of directors, etc.

3) What distinguishes this nominee from his or her peers?

4) To the best of your knowledge, list any other organizations or programs the nominee supported.

5) For Individuals/Youth: How does this individual encourage the spirit of philanthropy in our community?

6) For Corporate Nominees: How does the corporation engage its employees in the spirit of philanthropy and community involvement?

7) For Foundation Nominees: How has the foundation demonstrated innovative problem-solving for issues facing our community?

8) For Service Organizations: How does the organization engage its members in the spirit of philanthropy and community involvement?

Eligibility: Nominees must be carefully placed into the correct category based on the descriptions below:
Individual (Philanthropist of the Year): This award is presented to an individual or family with a proven record of exceptional generosity who, through direct financial support, has demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable responsibility, and whose generosity encourages others to take philanthropic leadership roles in our community.
Corporation: A for-profit business or corporation. Charitable foundations of for-profit corporations (i.e. the Coca-Cola Foundation) should be categorized as Corporation. Acknowledgement or recognition of donations is directed to the corporate entity.
Service Club/Civic Organization: A service club or civic organization is a voluntary non-profit organization where members meet regularly to perform charitable works either by direct hands-on efforts or by raising money for other organizations.
Foundation: A foundation is a legal categorization of nonprofit organizations. Foundations may also and often have charitable purposes and are free-standing charitable entities. This type of nonprofit organization may either donate funds and support to other organizations, or provide the sole source of funding for their own charitable activities.

Youth: Youth ages 5 - 18; please provide school name and address, contact person at the school, with both school season and summer contact information (this is critical since, in preparation for a Fall Recognition event, applications are considered during the summer months).

Young Adult: Ages 19 – 23; please provide school name and address, contact person at the school, with both school season and summer contact information, if applicable (note: preparation for the Fall Recognition event, applications are considered during the summer months).

Distinguished Agency Honorees: Every agency has someone special…someone who consistently goes above and beyond the norm, making contributions of time, financial support, or special and unique talents. Please take this opportunity to acknowledge that special person to your agency. Your Distinguished Agency Honoree must be submitted by using submission form. Please note your description is limited to 255 characters.
